Do you choose a word for the year?
If so; Do you look for one to appear or do you put thought into it?
Several years ago I began choosing a word for the year. The first time I did this I looked through dozens of words to find one that resonated with me. Since then, I've learned not to “seek out” a word: I wait for it to make itself known. In other words, I let the word choose me. I have found that the right word seems to come along at just the right time.
The past few years my words have been;
Breathe~2018 (this was the year I was completing Yoga Teacher Training). I needed to remind myself often to "just breathe".
Joy~2019 (things that didn't bring Joy were thrown out, donated, or given away). I was able to clear out so much "stuff". I was beginning to think I had the makings of a hoarder.
Simplify~2020 (who knew how much that would be needed in 2020?). And, I honestly am not sure how successful I was at that. Somedays I feel like starting a business in the middle of a pandemic and quarantine was not simplifying my life, lol! On the other hand, I am not running from place to place each day.
Believe~is my word for 2021. Why did I choose that?
I hadn't, really, started thinking about my word for 2021, but one day "believe" just kept showing up everywhere I looked. After seeing it numerous times over the course of that week, I knew that it should be my word for 2021, unless something else showed up. As I sit here writing this post on the Monday before the new year, no other word has revealed itself. As I think about it, it seems fitting. I believe Yoga With Janet will continue to flourish and grow. I believe that life will begin to return to a somewhat "normal" routine, soon. Although, I must say there are many things that I hope stay "simplified". I believe we will come through this time okay and be better on the other side. I simply just "believe".
Comment below and let me know if you choose a word for the year. Or if you will start this year.
I will be hosting a virtual "sharing circle" on New Year's Eve at 6:45pm, on The Zoom. A place to come together and share feelings of this year in a safe space, to hold space for ourselves and others. There will not be a yoga (asana) practice, but will end with a Metta Meditation. If you aren't familiar with Metta Meditation, it is a meditation that sends good wishes to yourself, to others, and to the universe. There is no charge for this event, but you must register. You can register by clicking here to be taken to the schedule. I hope to "see" there!
Are you on social media? Do you know about the YWJ Community Facebook Group? If you aren't already a member I would love to have join. Click the link to be taken to group. Class updates are posted there, along with challenges, and informative articles on yoga.
I wish you and your families a 2021 full of abundance and happiness. I look forward to connecting with you in the year to come.
Until the next time,
